Jeb Bush&#39;s Miami office in this 2003 photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As parents of 3rd graders grapple with the <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/05\/24\/how-many-third-graders-will-be-held-back-for-low-fcat-reading-scores\/\">release of FCAT reading results<\/a> &#8212; an additional 4,000 students are at risk of being held back &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/04\/16\/new-fcat-brings-new-complaints\/\">parents of students in other grades<\/a> know how will it affect their kids.<\/p>\n<p>Many, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/04\/16\/new-fcat-brings-new-complaints\/#comments\">Maldebot<\/a>, wrote to say their children were discouraged.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What can I do ? My daughter is very upset and feels like dropping out of 10th grade beause she was short 3 points in the Reading exam in FCAT..Help ! This takes the motivation out of kids<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/04\/16\/new-fcat-brings-new-complaints\/#comments\">Gintonic<\/a> shared a similar experience:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The FCAT has been the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.\u00a0 My 11th grader missed passing by 1 point.\u00a0 He has not passed a FCAT reading test since we came here when he was in the 3rd grade.\u00a0 He has taken two &#8220;reading&#8221; classes ever since to no avail.\u00a0 Cause they are a waste of time and the kids are stifled from learning.
