Rick Scott\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2011\/10\/20\/explaining-florida-gov-scott-war-on-anthropology-why-anthropologists-win\/\">singling out\u00a0 anthropologists<\/a> as a means of overhauling state universities.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The broadcast investigative reporting award is for an extensive collaboration between StateImpact and The Miami Herald that first aired in December 2011 called, <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2011\/12\/14\/no-choice-florida-charter-schools-failing-to-serve-students-with-disabilities\/\">\u201cNo Choice: Florida Charter Schools Failing To Serve Students With Disabilities.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/tag\/disabled-in-florida-charters\/\">investigation<\/a> found that 86 percent of Florida charter schools failed to enroll any students with severe disabilities, despite state and federal laws requiring charter schools to provide equal access to such students.<\/p>\n<p>The awards will be presented on May 19th at the EWA&#8217;s annual conference in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a sampling of some of our <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2011\/12\/29\/11-for-2011-the-best-of-stateimpact-florida\/\">favorite stories.<\/a> Thanks for reading.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Education Writers Association announced its national awards today, and StateImpact Florida took home the top prize for journalism blogging.
