The state places a few limits on schools: Students can not be choked or their breathing restricted; and schools can not turn off the lights in a room where a student is secluded.<\/p>\n<p>A bill proposed this year would have placed additional limits on schools, such as requiring anyone placing restraints on a student to be trained by the school district and requiring a medical evaluation after a student has been restrained.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2012\/0144\">That bill<\/a> is in a Senate committee as the session winds down its final days.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the details on the Ohio lawsuit:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In the lawsuit filed Monday in federal court, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olrs.ohio.gov\/about-olrs\">Ohio Legal Rights Service<\/a>\u00a0says it has initiated a \u201cdistrict-wide investigation of abuse, neglect and\/or significant rights violation\u201d in Columbus, Ohio\u2019s largest school district.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation came about after the mother of an autistic student contacted\u00a0the agency about her\u00a0son being placed seclusion room \u2014 which she called a \u201ccloset\u201d \u2014 more than once, according to the lawsuit.\u00a0The mother said that her son, who is autistic, \u201chad urinated in the room, was lying on the floor, and contracted a staph infection,\u201d according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>An agency investigator visited the school and described the seclusion room as a\u00a0\u201ca padded room with a metal door that had two peep holes and a foot latch lock,\u201d according to the lawsuit. The agency said in the lawsuit that they believe at least four Columbus elementary schools have these kinds of\u00a0rooms.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Should schools be able to restrain students?
