A new book is making a claim against a college admissions staple: the SATs.<\/p>\n

\u201cSAT Wars\u201d<\/a> author Joseph Soares says SAT scores are weak predictors of college performance. And he argues the high stakes test tends to cater to\u00a0white, male students with upper income backgrounds<\/a>, according to the New York Times.<\/p>\n

His book points to racial biases against minorities in the SAT verbal section and gender biases against females in the math section.<\/p>\n

In an interview with The Choice,\u00a0Soares said,\u00a0\u201chigh school grades are the single most powerful predictor of college performance.” And in his book, he encourages colleges to look beyond SAT scores and make the test optional.<\/p>\n

Several Florida colleges and universities<\/a>\u00a0have already decided to make the SATs optional, according to Fairtest.org<\/a>. See the list below.<\/p>\n
