Yes, it&#8217;s up&#8230;but it&#8217;s still cheaper to go to college in Florida than just about anywhere else.<\/p>\n<p>Our friends at The Florida Current have come up with a cool graphic showing the tuition trends, which they&#8217;re allowing us to republish <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2011\/11\/09\/florida-college-tuition-going-up-but-still-a-relative-bargain\/#more-2848\">here<\/a> on StateImpact Florida.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"fancybox\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/files\/2011\/11\/floridas-tuition-v5.png\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2850\" title=\"florida's-tuition-v5\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/files\/2011\/11\/floridas-tuition-v5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/files\/2011\/11\/floridas-tuition-v5.png 600w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/files\/2011\/11\/floridas-tuition-v5-300x603.png 300w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/files\/2011\/11\/floridas-tuition-v5-220x442.png 220w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Florida Current says Florida&#8217;s tuition rates are rising faster than the national average, but are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefloridacurrent.com\/article.cfm?id=25332006\">still relatively cheap<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re an in-state student at a public university in Florida, you&#8217;re paying the seventh-lowest tuition, on average, in the country.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s $5,626, compared with the U.S. average of $8,244, according to Florida Current.<\/p>\n<p>Tuition in Florida is growing a little faster in Florida than the national average &#8212; up 12 percent instead of 8 percent. Still, it would take a lot for Florida schools to catch up to the national average, or even most other southern states.<\/p>\n<p>Some Florida college officials are asking for higher tuition to attract and keep faculty and make up for state budget cuts.<\/p>\n<p>Florida&#8217;s Board of Governors are scheduled to discuss ways to raise tuition for some online courses and continuing education during their meetings today and tomorrow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As college students &#8220;Occupy USF&#8221; this afternoon, one of their biggest complaints is the rising cost of tuition.
