So it&#8217;s not surprising she turns to biology for a metaphor to describe teaching.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Especially in seventh grade you understand that this is a process,&#8221; she says, &#8220;and sometimes you&#8217;re the planter and sometimes you&#8217;re the waterer and sometimes you get to see the harvest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Today is the start of Teacher Appreciation Week, and Washington is one of many teachers participating in a social media campaign to clear up misconceptions and tell the public what the job is really about. It&#8217;s called #TeachingIs.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23TeachingIs&amp;src=hash\">#TeachingIs<\/a> 12+ hour days , teaching, coaching, cheering, planning&#8230;&#8230;.no overtime or time and a half. Getting paid in seeds sown<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jaraux Washington (@JarauxW) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JarauxW\/statuses\/461670978381430785\">May 1, 2014<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachingquality.org\/\">North Carolina-based Center for Teaching Quality<\/a> is leading the campaign.
