Rick Scott<\/a>. So far the agency has received more than 13,000 comments. All comments must be submitted on or before October 31.<\/p>\n<p>The standards, <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/tag\/common-core\/\">known as Common Core<\/a>, have <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2013\/10\/16\/supporters-opponents-of-floridas-common-education-standards-have-their-say-in-tampa\/\">drawn opposition<\/a> as schools approach next fall&#8217;s deadline for using the standards in every grade. The standards outline what students should know at the end of each grade. Students will need to show what they know and prove with evidence how they know it.<\/p>\n<p>Critics worry the standards <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2013\/10\/21\/angry-supportive-skeptical-what-floridas-education-commissioner-heard-at-common-core-listening-sessions\/\">reduce local control over classroom content<\/a>, increase the <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2013\/03\/06\/florida-students-will-spend-at-least-eight-hours-a-year-taking-new-standardized-test\/\">amount of standardized testing<\/a> and will be expensive, <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2013\/10\/16\/factchecking-tuesdays-common-core-forum\/\">among other concerns<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am extremely pleased and appreciate all the feedback from parents, teachers, administrators and the public about Florida\u2019s standards,\u201d Education Commissioner Pam Stewart said in a statement. \u201cWe encourage everyone to take this opportunity to let us know their ideas and suggestions to make our standards the best they can be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The agency plans to review the comments and report back to the State Board of Education at its November 19th meeting.<\/p>\n<p>You can submit comments and suggestions online at floridastandards.org or by email at flstandards@fldoe.org.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve got concerns about Florida&#8217;s K-12 math, English and literacy standards &#8212; or a suggestion about how to improve them &#8212; you&#8217;ve got until tomorrow to submit them to the Florida Department of Education.
