There are some Common Core critics working with Scott&#8217;s staff on specific concerns, but the majority of critics are offering the standards no quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Polling shows most of the <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2013\/08\/21\/this-week-in-education-polling\/\">general public hasn&#8217;t tuned in yet<\/a>, so popular opinion is unlikely to provide politicians much cover.<\/p>\n<p>Education Commissioner Pam Stewart says she will now review the hours of testimony and thousands of comments submitted electronically and send some recommendations to the State Board of Education.<\/p>\n<p>But at some point public forums, <a href=\"http:\/\/azstarnet.com\/news\/local\/education\/common-core-name-changes-standards-remain\/article_7a97e40c-bdbf-579f-960c-cbad2db9e9c4.html\">changing names or rebranding <\/a>the standards, <a href=\"http:\/\/jacksonville.com\/news\/2013-10-15\/story\/state-education-board-rejects-mandatory-use-certain-common-core-materials\">symbolic votes<\/a> and other moves kicking the can down the road will stop being effective.<\/p>\n<p>Someone (Scott? Lawmakers?) may have to deliver some bad news about Common Core. Either schools will scrap three years of work and preparation. Or the critics will be told they&#8217;re not getting their way.<\/p>\n<p>It will be an election issue in 2014 from Scott down to school board races.<\/p>\n<p>Florida&#8217;s decision, as always in education, will have big ramifications for the Common Core debate around the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If there&#8217;s a single point to take away from this week&#8217;s Common Core forums held around the state, it was made by David Knop in Davie.
