Although the\u00a0FDOE\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.batchgeo.com\/map\/?i=4e7d4d45a926205638277f91b16f5a1c\">maps<\/a>\u00a0all of the charter schools throughout the state, it isn&#8217;t the best tool for locating schools near you.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a class=\"fancybox\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/files\/2011\/10\/failing-schools.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1932\" title=\"failing schools\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/files\/2011\/10\/failing-schools.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"167\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve found the Florida Consortium of Public Charters does a good job of finding the schools for you. For\u00a0a list of charter schools located near your home or work zip code, you can\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.floridacharterschools.org\/public\/find_school.asp\">search here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where are the &#8220;A&#8221; and &#8220;F&#8221; Charters?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Maybe you want your kid to attend only the top performing Florida charters. Or maybe you just want to know which schools are the failing charters. If you want to brush up on Florida Statutes related to charter schools, the site is probably the best starting off point.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t Forget the School District\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A charter school in your area can only exist if the local school district approved it. And although charters have some autonomy from the district, parents can always turn to their local school district to express any concerns about a charter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Kid on the Block<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flcharteralliance.org\/\">Florida Charter School Alliance<\/a> was recently formed in May 2011, and their website is still really new. As of now, the Alliance caters more to the charter schools by offering support and guidance to a charter&#8217;s Governing Board.
