Education Commissioner Tony Bennett said this week that Florida <a href=\"stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2013\/02\/19\/the-other-problems-with-floridas-new-education-standards-and-testing\/\">may need to come up with a &#8216;Plan B&#8217; <\/a>in case the test isn&#8217;t ready for the 2014-2015 school year.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>PARCC is one of <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2013\/01\/08\/why-states-are-designing-two-tests-for-common-core-standards\/\">two tests states are developing to assess Common Core standards<\/a>. The other is the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly nine out of 10 insiders surveyed thought it was likely a state would leave the testing coalition. Alabama withdrew from both PARCC and Smarter Balanced earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA few more are likely to drop out, but not enough to cause alarm,&#8221; an insider wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Bennett warned the State Board of Education that other states might have difficulty finding the political will to support the tougher standards and cost that Common Core will require.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whiteboardadvisors.com\/files\/Feb%202013%20-%20Education%20Insider%20%28Digital%20Learning-Common%20Core%29_1.pdf\">Read the full survey here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time, a majority of experts surveyed by a Washington D.C.-based education consulting are concerned about the progress Florida and 21 other states are making developing the next generation of standardized test.
