As they graduate and get jobs, the state benefits, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here are Kiplinger&#8217;s 2013 rankings for Florida schools:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>University of Florida \u2013 Gainesville (3rd)<\/li>\n<li>New College of Florida &#8211; Sarasota (7th)<\/li>\n<li>Florida State University \u2013 Tallahassee (26th)<\/li>\n<li>University of Central Florida \u2013 Orlando (42nd)<\/li>\n<li>University of South Florida \u2013 Tampa (57th)<\/li>\n<li>University of North Florida \u2013 Jacksonville (64th)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/01\/03\/six-florida-schools-named-best-values\/\">The same six schools made the list a year ago.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tuition in Florida has been climbing rapidly. Universities are playing catch up in an effort to be more competitive with other institutions nationally.<\/p>\n<p>State funding is also lacking.<\/p>\n<p>University of North Florida President John Delaney said, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/12\/05\/why-florida-universities-wont-ask-for-tuition-hikes-this-year\/\">Approximately 30 percent is spent less in Florida<\/a> than compared to the national average on each student.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>University presidents say they\u2019ll avoid a tuition increase for the coming year if the state will provide an additional $118-million in funding.<\/p>\n<p>In spite of the recent tuition hikes, <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2011\/11\/09\/florida-college-tuition-going-up-but-still-a-relative-bargain\/\">Florida\u2019s public colleges and universities are still considered to be a good deal<\/a> compared to tuition rates around the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kiplinger is starting 2013 with a list of \u201cBest Values in Public Colleges.\u201d The personal finance magazine put six Florida institutions in its Top 100 list.
