{"id":14960,"date":"2012-11-16T11:18:29","date_gmt":"2012-11-16T16:18:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/?p=14960"},"modified":"2012-11-16T11:23:35","modified_gmt":"2012-11-16T16:23:35","slug":"conference-emphaizes-whats-working-for-charter-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/11\/16\/conference-emphaizes-whats-working-for-charter-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference Emphasizes What&#8217;s Working For Charter Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_14961\"  class=\"wp-caption module image right\" style=\"max-width: 225px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/11\/16\/conference-emphaizes-whats-working-for-charter-schools\/basic-cmyk\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-14961\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14961\" title=\"Basic CMYK\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/files\/2012\/11\/fcsc_header_2012.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">charterschoolconference.com<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 16th annual Florida Charter School Conference has more than 750 attendees and 300 exhibitors.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Charter school supporters are wrapping up their <a href=\"http:\/\/charterschoolconference.com\/2012\/index.php\">annual conference<\/a> today in Orlando.<\/p>\n<p>More than 750 participants and 300 exhibitors registered for the two-day event.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re hearing about charter school best practices and teaching strategies that use technology to improve learning.<\/p>\n<p>Over 80 breakout sessions are on the agenda, with titles like \u201cCharter Support Unit: Here to Help You,\u201d \u201cReinvent the Classroom by Unlearning,\u201d and \u201cImplementing Title I Programs in Charter Schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The conference is presented by the Florida Department of Education\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.floridaschoolchoice.org\/\">Office of Independent Education and Parental Choice<\/a> (IEPC) and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.floridaeducationfoundation.org\/\">Florida Education Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>IEPC\u2019s Executive Director, Michael Kooi, says Florida is a leader in providing high quality educational options.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe conference celebrates the success of Florida\u2019s charter schools and their unique ability to meet the needs of each student,\u201d Kooi said. \u201cBy providing options, a student can choose the learning environment best suited to help them reach their highest level of achievement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keynote speakers are CBS News correspondent Byron Pitts and Dr. Deborah Kenny, founder and Chief Executive Officer of a charter school network in New York known as Harlem Village Academies.
