That&#39;s Trigger, who helped Roy Rogers get around.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Gov. Scott has been talking about education a lot recently.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts say it&#8217;s an issue <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/10\/18\/rick-scott-eyes-reelection-softens-stance-on-public-education\/\">that might play well for his reelection.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But there&#8217;s a conspicuous absence from the education agenda he released Thursday: The parent trigger.<\/p>\n<p>Last year the parent trigger was the most devisive education issue of the Legislative session. <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/03\/13\/wrapping-up-education-bills-in-the-2012-florida-legislative-session\/\">The bill died on the session&#8217;s final day<\/a> when a sponsor turned against the bill, resulting in a tie vote.<\/p>\n<p>The bill would allow the majority of parents at chronically failing schools to decide how to restructure the schools. That can include closing the school, firing the principal and\/or staff or converting to a charter school.<\/p>\n<p>Supporters, such as former Gov. Jeb Bush, say <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/06\/11\/a-qa-with-former-florida-gov-jeb-bush\/\">the bill will be back this year<\/a>. And political groups, such as StudentsFirst, have staff in Florida working on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Those opposing the parent trigger are getting ready as well.<\/p>\n<p>If a governor is using education to help broaden his appeal, staying away from the parent trigger might be a wise idea.
