Alberto Carvalho shows graph of school grades.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Miami-Dade has overtaken Duval as the district with the highest number of \u201cpriority\u201d schools, formerly known as \u201cintervene.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They are the bottom five percent of the lowest performing &#8220;F&#8221; schools.<\/p>\n<p>Other low performers are labeled \u201cfocus.\u201d These are the next lowest ten percent of schools.<\/p>\n<p>High schools with <a href=\"http:\/\/fwd.pearson.com\/2012\/05\/17\/how-esea-waiver-will-affect-title-i-funding\/\">graduation rates under 60 percent<\/a> fall into the focus or priority category.<\/p>\n<p>The designations are based on federal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fldoe.org\/nclb\/adequate_yearly_progress.asp\">Adequate Yearly Progress<\/a> requirements and<a href=\"http:\/\/schoolgrades.fldoe.org\/\"> school grades.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Through the federal <a href=\"http:\/\/flbsi.org\/DA\/\">Differentiated Accountability<\/a> program, Florida is given the flexibility to provide interventions to schools with the greatest need. The schools labeled as priority and focus will get the most support.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jacksonville.com\/news\/metro\/2012-10-05\/story\/duval-county-no-longer-leads-state-number-lowest-performing-schools\">Duval had seven priority schools last year<\/a>. It dropped to three this year, tying with Pinellas and Broward for the second highest number of priority schools.<\/p>\n<p>Miami-Dade is now the leader with five schools on the priority list. Even so, the district overall had an <a href=\"http:\/\/superintendent.dadeschools.net\/index.php?news=148\">increase in schools receiving A and B grades<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Florida&#8217;s priority schools<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Dade\u2014Lenora Braynon Smith Elementary<\/li>\n<li>Dade\u2014Carol City Middle<\/li>\n<li>Dade\u2014Charles R.
