The state legislature approved a bill creating the program.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The curriculum is now in all 11,000 of the state\u2019s kindergarten classes.\u00a0 It includes six 30-minute lessons.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13636\"  class=\"wp-caption module image right\" style=\"max-width: 299px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/09\/27\/sex-abuse-victim-creates-curriculum-to-protect-kindergarteners\/lauren2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-13636\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13636\" title=\"Lauren2\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/files\/2012\/09\/Lauren2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"246\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">Gina Jordan\/StateImpact Florida<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lauren Book announces launch of sexual abuse prevention curriculum in Tallahassee.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Book says the students are taught from a place of fun, not fear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople ask me often times would this curriculum have prevented what happened to you,\u201d Book said. \u201cIt wouldn\u2019t have that first time. But\u2026I know that the sexual abuse that I endured for six years would not have gone on for as long as it did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2012\/04\/09\/150286297\/sexual-abuse-what-finally-made-it-ok-to-tell\">Her former nanny is serving a 25-year prison sentence<\/a> for the abuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne in three girls and one in five boys will be sexually assaulted before they\u2019re 18,\u201d Book said. \u201cThat\u2019s before they leave this school system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Book is motivated by statistics that suggest 95 percent of sexual abuse is preventable with education and awareness.<\/p>\n<p>She created <a href=\"http:\/\/laurenskids.org\/\">Lauren\u2019s Kids<\/a> to offer education through <a href=\"http:\/\/laurenskids.org\/about\/prevention-curriculum\/\">school curriculum<\/a> and a 24-hour hotline.
