Rick Scott has ordered a review of the process<\/a> that led to the company being awarded the money.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Film director James Cameron (\u201cTitanic\u201d) founded the company. <a href=\"http:\/\/phx.corporate-ir.net\/phoenix.zhtml?c=246637&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1731856&amp;highlight=\">It has offices in half a dozen cities<\/a> in the U.S. and overseas.<\/p>\n<p>Digital Domain\u2019s facility in Port St. Lucie \u2013 a new animation studio \u2013 is shutting down. \u00a0280 people are being laid off. Many of them were hired from nearby <a href=\"http:\/\/faculty.irsc.edu\/dept\/advancedtechnology\/DMI\/index.htm\">Indian River State College<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its digital degree programs, the college has agreements with area high schools to prepare students for work in animation and other digital media careers.<\/p>\n<p>Janice Karst with the St. Lucie County School District said the company has \u201cbeen a wonderful source of information about the future of digital design\u201d for the schools. \u00a0She said employees had been working with high school teachers to review the district\u2019s design software.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir staff basically spent time with our teachers giving them tips on new innovations utilizing the technology on hand,\u201d said Karst. \u201cNo software, hardware, nor money changed hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.palmbeachpost.com\/news\/business\/economy\/treasure-coast-digital-media-programs-will-continu\/nR64b\/\">School leaders don\u2019t expect much of an impact<\/a>, since many digital media programs were in place long before Digital Domain arrived.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A digital production company that helps the St. Lucie County School District with design software for digital media programs is closing up shop.
