He has faced growing criticism from <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/06\/14\/florida-school-board-members-say-education-commissioner-challenged-their-authority\/\">school boards<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/07\/27\/panel-recommends-lowering-passing-score-for-fcat-writing-but-will-education-commissioner-listen\/\">teachers<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/06\/12\/the-problem-with-the-fcat-is-the-frenzy\/\">and parents <\/a>about the state&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/07\/31\/schools-spend-1-of-instructional-time-on-fcat-false-says-politifact\/\">standardized testing regimen<\/a> and school grading system.<\/p>\n<p>Board of Education chairman Kathleen Shanahan said in a statement that Robinson&#8217;s decision was related to his family.<\/p>\n<p>Shanahan praised Robinson&#8217;s efforts in pushing to toughen state testing standards and leading Florida&#8217;s efforts to<a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/07\/23\/florida-officials-want-to-remove-students-with-severe-disabilities-from-school-grading-system\/\"> implement a waiver from federal No Child Left Behind requirements<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The board is extremely grateful for Gerard\u2019s leadership this past year,\u201d said State Board of Education Chair Kathleen Shanahan. \u201cHe has worked with the board as we have raised standards for our students and our schools.
