The state is working on a system that will keep track of student data from pre-K through graduate school.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia is using a federal <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.ed.gov\/programs\/racetothetop-assessment\/index.html\">Race To The Top grant<\/a> to create a statewide database.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers will look for trends \u2013 good or bad \u2013 as students move to the next grade level. Information will be shared among seven agencies.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/07\/23\/explaining-how-a-florida-college-database-might-help-you-earn-6500-more\/\">The Florida Department of Education recently launched a searchable web tool<\/a> that provides details about the number of college graduates and how much money they earn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.edutopia.org\/economic-stimulus-education-data-systems\">Florida has been collecting data on student progress for decades<\/a>, like coursework and test scores among high school students. But the FDOE hasn\u2019t compiled all the information from childhood to college into a one stop, searchable database.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/07\/20\/report-says-accountability-is-essential-to-improving-florida-schools\/\">Accountability is a big reason for a tracking system<\/a>. Ultimately, developers hope the data will show how well individual schools, teachers, and colleges are performing.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia won the federal grant, in part, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doe.k12.ga.us\/Race-to-the-Top\/Pages\/default.aspx\">because of its plan for the database<\/a>. The Obama administration has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/issues\/education\">pushing for accountability<\/a> and education reforms that include<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ed.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/our-future-our-teachers.pdf\"> keeping track of student and teacher performance<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Georgia is taking tracking student progress to the next level.
