{"id":10522,"date":"2012-07-19T11:59:29","date_gmt":"2012-07-19T15:59:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/?p=10522"},"modified":"2012-07-19T12:01:46","modified_gmt":"2012-07-19T16:01:46","slug":"florida-board-of-governors-spokeswoman-resigns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/07\/19\/florida-board-of-governors-spokeswoman-resigns\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Board Of Governors Spokeswoman Resigns"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_10525\"  class=\"wp-caption module image right\" style=\"max-width: 150px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/07\/19\/florida-board-of-governors-spokeswoman-resigns\/layman_k\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10525\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10525\" title=\"layman_k\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/files\/2012\/07\/layman_k.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">flbog.edu<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kelly Layman<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The public relations machine for the State University System of Florida\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flbog.edu\/\">Board of Governors<\/a> (BOG) has resigned.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flbog.edu\/about\/cod\/ss\/layman_k.php\">Kelly Layman<\/a>\u00a0was, as she often referred to herself, \u201ca shop of one,\u201d handling communications for the State University System during\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/06\/21\/fsu-president-puts-an-end-to-board-of-governors-tuition-haggling\/\">a time of tuition increases<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2011\/12\/16\/famu-update-champions-death-ruled-a-homicide-ammons-considers-stepping-down\/\">a fatal hazing scandal<\/a>, and the controversial launch of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/florida\/2012\/05\/25\/usf-polytechnic-starts-transition-into-standalone-university\/\">Florida 12<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0public university<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, she\u2019s returning to the private sector as a partner at MedAffinity Corporation, a Tallahassee-based company that provides electronic health records to physicians.<\/p>\n<p>Layman\u2019s last day with the university system is July 20.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a portion of Layman\u2019s resignation letter:<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>It has been an honor to continue at the Board of Governors after service in Florida&#8217;s Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branches. The opportunity to work these past two years with committed university leaders, students, researchers, innovators, and indefatigable journalists has been meaningful.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><\/em><em>The System&#8217;s commitment to a &#8220;New Florida&#8221; economic structure &#8211; with public universities appropriately on the frontlines &#8211; is the best thing for the State&#8217;s future.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>This exciting era has been a true privilege to be a small part of, especially for someone who has lived in Florida her whole life and is a &#8220;product&#8221; of the System.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>The Board staff (past and present) exemplifies some of the best public servants in Tallahassee.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The public relations machine for the State University System of Florida\u00a0Board of Governors (BOG) has resigned.
