Teachers Will Get Their Raise This Year

Teachers could start seeing raises this summer after lawmakers reached an agreement Wednesday. The raises were originally scheduled to begin in June 2014.

The proposal to delay the raises upset many school employees, who knew Gov. Rick Scott had been pushing for $2,500 raises for all teachers and didn’t understand why they would have to wait about 13 months to see the money.

Lawmakers agreed to move up the payout date after administrators told them the raises could be tied to student performance and still handed out before June 2014, officials said.
