Company Eyes Natural Gas Terminal in Corpus Christi

A terminal in Corpus for exporting natural gas? With a surplus of methane, the idea is catching on:


Cheniere, which has clung to life in part with equity offerings and bank loans, now has contracts to supply 10.5 billion cubic feet of gas a year, starting in 2016, from a planned export terminal here and a second such facility in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Investors and big oil companies originally derided the idea of exporting natural gas from the mainland U.S. As recently as January 2011, Fadel Gheit, senior energy analyst at Oppenheimer & Co., said it would sooner “snow in New York in July” than U.S. natural gas would be shipped out of the Gulf of Mexico.
