Shell Says It Will Decide by January Where to Build a New Cracker Plant

Three states, includ­ing Penn­syl­va­nia, are com­pet­ing for the facil­ity that sep­a­rates out ethane and other wet gasses from nat­ural gas sup­plies. The plant would cre­ate thou­sands of con­struc­tion jobs, and pos­si­bly hun­dreds of per­ma­nent positions.


PITTSBURGH — Shell Chem­i­cals will build a “multibillion-dollar’ ethane cracker some­where in West Vir­ginia, Ohio or Penn­syl­va­nia, as the com­pany con­tin­ues review­ing poten­tial con­struc­tion sites. The final announce­ment should be set for Jan­u­ary, said Dan Carl­son, gen­eral man­ager of new busi­ness devel­op­ment for Shell.
