Industry Risk Consultant Publishes White Paper on Fractivists

Jonathan Woods, an analyst with ControlRisks, published a white paper on the anti-fracking movement for the gas industry. Woods says the hundreds of grassroots groups of activists have made good use of international social media networks to coordinate efforts. He says industry continues to underestimate the fractivists, and needs to take their concerns more seriously.

Some activists and groups also believe direct action against the industry is necessary. Direct action is intended to draw media attention to the anti-fracking movement, motivate the anti-fracking opposition, and physically disrupt operations. Project site blockades, in particular, have emerged as a favoured low-cost, high-impact tactic.
