Gas Drilling Sickens Families, Environmental Study Says

Earthworks, an environmental group, released the results of a health survey Thursday that focuses on Pennsylvania residents living close to natural gas drilling sites. Although the report does not prove a link between drilling and illness, the authors say lack of data and information make it difficult for medical professionals to assess the impacts.


In addition to asking participants about symptoms before and after natural gas development, the research team conducted 34 air tests and nine water tests. They wrote that many of the chemicals detected have been linked to oil and gas operations, as well as with many of the symptoms reported in the survey.
