In an unusual deal, Delta Airlines closed on the purchase of the ConocoPhillips refinery in Trainer on Friday. Workers have wasted no time getting back on the job, several showed up for training today. The fate of the nearby Sunoco refinery is still unclear.
Many Trainer refinery workers will be returning today to the same plant where they carried out trash bags and crates full of their belongings five months ago. What began nine months ago with ConocoPhillips idling the 185,000-barrel-per-day refinery ends with the transferring of ownership from ConocoPhillips’ Phillips 66 to Monroe Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines.
