“China to Double Blocks Offered in Next Shale-Gas Auction”

Chi­nese offi­cials say their shale gas reserves are open to the high­est bid­der from across the globe.


China, the world’s biggest energy con­sumer, may hold 48 per­cent more shale-gas reserves than the U.S., accord­ing to the Wash­ing­ton, D.C.-based Energy Infor­ma­tion Admin­is­tra­tion. Bei­jing aims to triple China’s use of gas to about 10 per­cent of energy con­sump­tion by 2020 to cut its reliance on more-polluting coal and oil.
