Twelve hundred jobs in Southeast Pennsylvania could be lost if these refineries shut down. Casey urged the companies to make public all “relevant information” about the refinery finances.
Casey’s confrontational letter represents the latest salvo between public officials, union representatives and the companies over the decisions to sell or shut down the refineries in Philadelphia, Marcus Hook and Trainer. The three plants process about 700,000 barrels of crude oil a day, more than half the refining capacity in the northeast.
