Beaver County Residents and Township File Claims of Fraud Against Chesapeake

The plaintiffs say Chesapeake not only obtained the leases in a fraudulent manner, but that the company has done nothing to produce natural gas and thereby deprived the property owners of royalty income.

A Beaver County municipality and two of its supervisors, as private property owners, are participating in a civil suit filed this month against the county’s most active Marcellus shale gas developer. The suit contends that Chesapeake has made no effort to produce natural gas from any of the properties leased between 2003 and 2007, and alleges that Chesapeake is employing leases that were fraudulently obtained by O&G, an Ohio-based firm.
