Drill Bits: New York Fines A PA Driller; PA Considers Using Acid Mine Drainage For Fracking

New York’s Depart­ment of Envi­ron­men­tal Con­ser­va­tion is fin­ing a nat­ural gas com­pany nearly $200,000 for pol­lut­ing a New York stream. The twist? The offend­ing drilling site is in Pennsylvania.

Ear­lier this week, Chesa­peake Energy coun­tered low nat­ural gas prices by scal­ing back its drilling oper­a­tions. Cabot Oil and Gas, which led the S&P 500 in growth last year, may fol­low suit.

West Virginia’s Sen­ate is expected to pass leg­is­la­tion cre­at­ing tax breaks for new devel­op­ment projects today. The mea­sure is a big part of the state’s push to host a major nat­ural gas pro­cess­ing plant.
