Power Up: The Week Ahead in Energy

Coming Up This Week:

  • EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson Heads to Congress – The House Committee on Science will hold a hearing this Thursday, June 28, to look at “strengthening the scientific backbone of the EPA.”  Expect questions for Jackson about how her regulatory agency kills jobs.
  • Tour de Frack, or “Freedom Ride for Awareness and Community Knowledge” – These fractivist bicycle enthusiasts say they are putting activism in motion. The bike ride from Butler, Pa. to Washington, D.C., along the Great Allegheny Passage, and the C&O Canal towpath, wraps up at the end of this week.
  • Shale Insight Conference – The gathering of Marcellus Shale drillers and, most likely, their detractors, will once again come to Philadelphia this September 20-21. Early registration deadline is this Friday. Rumors have it former Governor Ed Rendell will be giving the keynote speech on former Governor Ed Rendell. ;}
  • Sunoco refinery study – Delaware County officials plan to announce Wednesday the results of a study on what to do with the idled Sunoco refinery in Marcus Hook. The county hired IHS to research potential uses for the site.  In the meantime, workers at the newly named “Monroe Energy,” will start heading back to work this week at the former ConocoPhillips refinery in Trainer, which was purchased by Delta Airlines.
