Pipelines: A Snowmobilers' Delight

Several weeks ago we broadcast a story about an emerging battleground over gas drilling in Pennsylvania — pipelines. But not everyone who enjoys the great outdoors sees pipeline expansion as an impediment to their use of the forest. Snowmobilers love pipelines, almost as much as deer and elk.
Bob Kirchner is a past president of the Pennsylvania State Snowmobile Association, a non-profit with 40,000 members. Kirchner, and PSSA, want pipeline right of ways on state and federal lands to extend to snowmobiles. Currently, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources extends right of ways on forest roads. But the snowmobilers have run up against drilling traffic on some of these previously quiet trails.
