State Rep. Proposes “Go to College Now, Pay Tuition Later” Bill

One state representative is proposing that the state allow students to attend college for free, and then repay the state 3 percent of their income for the next 24 years. Rep. Bob Hagan tells Ohio Public Radio it would be one way to make going to college more affordable.


“Here in Youngstown in the Mahoning Valley at Youngstown State University, twenty five years ago when I started in the state legislature, the state was paying 75 percent of the tuition with the students paying 25 percent. Now’s it’s totally reversed. “It’s getting increasingly difficult to get a higher education degree in the state of Ohio because of cost,” said Hagan.
