School Trip Organizers Work Around Federal Government Shutdown

When the federal government shutdown meant that planned destinations for Washington, D.C., school trips were not an option, one Ohio school travel planner came up with options.

Capitol tour or National Zoo visit no longer an option? Try a trip to Mount Vernon or the Newseum instead.


Kerry Wimsatt of Prodigy Student Travel in Worthington organizes more than ninety school trips a year. He says past events have allowed him to anticipate such roadblocks.

“We’ve seen this train coming for some time. We’ve kind of planned it in advance what would be the repercussions and what would be our options,” Wimsatt said.
