Pastor, Lion of Judah Charter School Founder Romey Coles Indicted

Romey Coles, the head of Cleveland charter school Lion of Judah Academy has been indicted and accused of “illegally funneling $1.2 million of public funds to a business he formed to run the school,” the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Several other people associated with the charter school, including Romey Coles’ wife Rosina Coles, have also been indicted.

According to Romey Coles’ website, “his desire is to see everyone use their faith to go from bondage to prosperity, from death to life and to bring about a great level of change in their personal and community lives through using the principles of God’s Word as practical tools and business training.”

This is one of the most tangled messes of self-dealing and breach of trust with taxpayer dollars that I have seen,” said a statement from State Auditor Dave Yost, whose office has been trying to piece together the school’s financial dealings for years.

Yost offered congratulations to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty “and his team on bringing these indictments, and to our auditors and investigators for their work in support.”
