Granville Schools Now Offer Gluten-Free Meals

The Granvile school district in Central Ohio has started offering gluten-free lunches to students at some schools. The move comes after Jo Beth Fruechtnicht, whose daughter has celiac disease, talked with her school nurse. The school district’s business manager says the changes won’t cause raise lunch prices.

Fruechtnicht said she was shocked and pleasantly surprised that the Granville school district was so quick to respond to her daughters’ special needs.

“I have never heard of another school doing this. It is huge,” she said. “In the past, my kids have been isolated from lunches, from food-related events, even from family gatherings. For them to have even two days a week when they can buy lunch makes them feel part of the community. They get so excited.”
