Former Employee Stole $4.2 Million From Cuyahoga Hts Schools, Says Auditor

A former employee of Cuyahoga Heights schools stole nearly $4.2 million from the district, according to a new investigation by State Auditor Dave Yost. The schools’ former IT director, Joesph Palazzo, resigned last February after the then-interim superintendent noticed some strange spending on behalf of the IT department.

Yost called the amount “one of the largest findings for recovery” that the auditor’s office has ever had.

The auditor said he has turned over the information from the audit to federal and county prosecutors. Palazzo has not yet been charged. Aside from any criminal charges that may come, the district plans to pursue civil action to recover the money, according to Superintendent Edwin Holland.
