Akron School Board Congratulates LeBron James

Akron school board members issued public congratulations to former Akron resident LeBron James on being named MVP of the NBA finals and leading the Miami Heat to victory in the finals. Although James is a graduate of an Akron parochial school, James’ foundation has made numerous donations to the Akron public schools and James himself has campaigned for Akron school levies.

Board member the Rev. Curtis Walker said, “We’re proud of his accomplishment and applaud his career and contributions to the Akron Public Schools.”

James is a supporter of the APS’ after-school program and has funded computers and other programs that benefit the district’s students.

“He has given a great deal to this district,” said board President Jason Haas.
