Voters Approve Roughly 80 Percent of School Tax Issues Across The State

Theresa S Thompson / Flickr

Collectively, more than 90 school districts asked voters for help with more than 100 school tax issues statewide during Tuesday's election. Most of the levies were renewals. According to unofficial results collected by StateImpact Ohio, roughly 90 percent of those requests passed, along with more than half of new money requests. That's a slight increase from the past few elections, where districts have struggled to receive voter support when it comes to asking for the approval of additional levies. It was not a large turnout for yesterday’s primary election.  A few counties had only a single issue on the ballot – usually a school levy. The unofficial results have voters approved about 80 percent of school levies overall.Notable losers were Cleveland Heights-University Heights and Walnut Creek in Fairfield County, east of Columbus.  Voters in that resort town expressed fear of money troubles when their Buckeye Lake gets partially drained for dam repairs.Take a look at our statewide, searchable database to see how your district fared. StateImpact regrets the error.
