State Senate Education Committee Set to Study PARCC Exams

StateImpact Ohio / Amy Hansen

State Senate Education Chair Peggy Lehner said it’s possible that Ohio could change or even completely ditch the PARCC exams.

But before that, the Kettering Republican said the newly-formed state Senate Advisory Committee on Testing—comprised mainly of Ohio educators-- plans to tackle some of the most frequently repeated concerns surrounding the current assessments.“We’ve had lots of issues related to the technology, for example,” said Lehner.  “Are those real, or are those voices being magnified because that’s who we’re hearing from.”Other complaints focus on the content and the amount of time spent testing. After a handful of meetings over the next few weeks, the group plans to turn over their recommendations to the Senate Education Committee by mid-May.
