Monday: State Board of Education search committee meets to select semi-finalists for the job of state superintendent of public instruction.
Tuesday: Gov. John Kasich’s people testify again regarding the education parts of his budget to the K-12 education subcommittee of the House Finance committee. Later this week, expect testimony from the Ohio Department of Education; advocacy groups and think tanks; the associations of school boards, superintendents and school business officials; teachers unions; and others. Also on Tuesday, Ohio University officials testify to a House subcommittee on the merits of a four-year tuition guarantee and Senate committees hears testimony on school safety.
Wednesday: One-year anniversary of the shooting at Chardon High School that killed three students.
Tuesday-Wednesday: Ohio Economic-Education Summit focuses on how to do a better job of preparing students for jobs, and all that entails.
Wednesday: Ohio Senate Education Committee could vote on changes to Ohio’s new third grade reading guarantee.
Also this week: The Ohio Department of Education will release formal report cards for Ohio schools. The department released “preliminary” data in the fall. This week’s “final” report cards are expected to include the same information as previously released, but the report cards for the nine school districts that scrubbed student data will have a message saying their report cards are subject to change.
