Week Ahead: Common Core Rules, OFT Convention and More
Monday: Happy Washington’s Birthday. Some schools are closed. For others, it’s a parent-teacher conference day. Better check your calendar.
Tuesday: Gov. John Kasich to give his State of the State speech at a convention center in Lima. Kasich told school leaders last month he was likely wouldn’t break new education policy ground in his speech. But one never knows. Last year’s speech — at a school in Steubenville — was “one of the nuttier political speeches in recent memory.”
Wednesday: Deadline to weigh in on rules about how what kinds of assistance students with disabilities can get when they take the writing parts of the new Common Core tests.
Thursday-Saturday: Annual Ohio Federation of Teachers convention in Columbus. Members of Ohio’s second largest teachers union meet to set the union’s direction for the coming year.
Reminder: Ohio educators hold a weekly Twitter chat Mondays at 9 p.m. under the hashtag #ohedchat. This week’s topic is blended learning, or classes that combine online and face-to-face instruction.
