Week Ahead: Cleveland Transformation Alliance Members to be Announced

Monday-Tuesday: The Ohio state Board of Education is scheduled to decide on guidelines for waiving some state requirements (including maximum student:teacher ratios, the length of teachers’ required planning time and the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance) for schools. The board will also discuss the search for a state superintendent, rules about the use of seclusion and restraint in schools, and new teacher licensure tests.

Monday: Cleveland’s mayor is set to officially announce members of the Cleveland Transformation Alliance. The alliance is a nonprofit group that will make recommendations to the Ohio Department of Education on which groups can sponsor new charter schools in Cleveland, among other duties.

Monday: Cincinnati school board is scheduled to consider unspecified special security arrangement.

Tuesday: The Ohio state Senate could vote on an amended bill to change schools’ state report cards by, among other things, instituting an A-F rating system. If the Senate approves the amended bill, it will head back to the House.

Friday: Campaign finance reports are due, which means it’s a chance to see how much the Cleveland levy campaign cost and who contributed to state Board of Education races.
