Week Ahead: Ohio Statewide Education Conference, Performance Pay and More

Coming Up This Week

Thursday-Friday:  Ohio Annual Statewide Education Conference (sponsored by the Race to the Top office). Featuring a whole lot of teachers and other educators talking about the Third Grade Reading Guarantee, the Common Core and new standardized tests, technology in the classroom and more. (We’re planning to be there too. Want to help us cover the conference? Get in touch.)

Thursday: Deadline to apply for a piece of $2.8 million grant to be used to bring teacher performance pay to your district. Districts/schools with top eligibility include Akron, Cleveland, Olentangy and a White Hat-run Life Skills school.

What We’re Working On

The Ohio Department has released hundreds of public comments on a draft policy regarding the use of seclusion and restraint in Ohio public schools. We’ll be sorting through them this week along with our partners at The Columbus Dispatch.

There’s an election or something coming up next week, and Barack and Mitt aren’t the only ones running for office. All seven State Board of Election races this fall are contested. There are 194 school levies – nearly two-thirds of which are asking voters for new money – on the ballot too.
