Columbus Superintendent Gene Harris Reflects on Her “Dream Job”

Columbus schools Superintendent Gene Harris, who has led Ohio’s largest school district since 2001, announced last month that she would step down at the end of next school year.

She sent her formal notice of retirement to the Columbus school board last week. In it, she writes:

“I have never regretted my career choice… Working in central office, supervising principals and leading curriculum and operations, along with the experience as assistant superintendent in the Ohio Department of Education, helped to prepare me for the pinnacle of my professional career, serving as superintendent of Columbus City Schools. Not many have the opportunity to have their dream job, and certainly not for 12 years!”
