Ohio University Student Fees to Fund Construction of New Athletic Facility

Ohio University students will pay for the construction of a new track and for ongoing maintenance of a new indoor “multipurpose center” designed primarily for university athletic team use. The Ohio University Post reports that part of the school’s “general fee” (which amounts to about $650 per semester) will go to the new facility:

The General Fee Advisory Committee, judging by student feedback, will supplement that vision with an additional $1.5 million from the General Fee. General Fee money will also be used to finance the ongoing maintenance of the multipurpose center, which is an estimated $250,000 annually.

“The feedback from students has been, ‘This is what they would like to see in the building,’ ” said Chad Mitchell, interim budget director.

The school has also raised private money for the center.
