Toledo to Demolish More Than Two Dozen Schools

The Toledo school district plans to raze more than two dozen schools by the end of the year because of falling enrollment and a lack of qualified buyers who might be interested in the schools, the Toledo Blade reports.

Wow.

Enrollment in the Toledo school district dropped 39 percent from 2000 to 2010. The city’s population dropped by 8 percent over the same period.

The schools to be knocked down include Nathan Hale Elementary, which opened in 1920, and Libbey High School, which opened in 1923 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
