“A Quarter Of Portsmouth’s Employees Still Eligible To Cash Out Unused Time”

The legislature recently put the kibosh to applying payouts for unused time to public employee pension calculations. And while Portsmouth stopped offering payouts for blocks of unused time back in 1996, city workers hired before then could still have a lot of money coming when they retire.


PORTSMOUTH – Fifteen years after the city ceased offering a benefit that allows employees to cash out unused time off – amounts that are calculated into lifelong pensions – a quarter of all city employees are still eligible to reap the lapsed benefit.
