UNH President Pushes For Restored Funding

This week, University of New Hampshire President Mark Huddleston delivered his State of the University address. He used the speech to reiterate his call to restore the cuts to the State University funding.

In exchange for restoring the state’s nearly $50 million dollar cut from the university system, Huddleston again pledged to freeze tuition for two years and increase student grants and scholarships to students.

He made no mention of increasing the number of slots available for in-state students — something else the candidates for governor have proposed.

Huddleston also discussed on the University’s efforts to deliver the same quality education for less money.

We’re doing this in part by continuing to be frugal Yankees and cutting costs wherever and whenever possible, but more importantly we’re doing it by innovating and specifically, to use a phrase from the strategic plan, by reimagining time and space.

The school launched a campaign called UNH Works for New Hampshire, an effort to push Concord lawmakers to restore funding cuts.
