Competency-Based Education Spreading To Community Colleges

    The U.S. Department of Labor will give community colleges in three states a total of $12 million to teach competency-based courses in key technology fields. That’s a lot like the model used at Western Governors University, Indiana’s online school. From Community College Spotlight:

    Community college students will be able to demonstrate competency to earn credits in self-paced classes, reports the Texas Tribune. It’s the Western Governors University model — but classes will include classroom instruction as well as online learning.
