Morning Bell: School Board To Meet At Resort, Purdue Plans Campus Renovations

Purdue University announced a 10-year capitol plan Thursday that calls for the demolition of seven buildings on the West Lafayette campus.

South Bend school board to meet at resort – “South Bend’s school board will gather at a waterfront resort in New Buffalo on Monday for an executive session in order to accommodate a consultant who lives there and is currently unable to travel. When contacted by The Tribune, three board members expressed reservations regarding the logistics in light of last week’s budget-slashing move that included eliminating the positions of 43 teachers and more than two dozen others.” South Bend Tribune

Purdue looks to build, raze on West Lafayette campus – “The plan includes an $89 million classroom and library facility that would replace outdated space in three academic buildings and consolidate a sprawling library. Public gets look at superintendent contract stipulations – “Attorney David Hollenbeck said Public Law 148, which went into effect July 1, stipulates school boards must have a public meeting prior to setting the terms of a superintendent’s contract and take public comment as to what is on the table during negotiations with a potential candidate.” Valparaiso News

Parents Are an ‘Untapped Resource’ to Push STEM, Study Says – “The field experiment involved sending parents two glossy brochures and the link to a website, all highlighting the value of studying STEM subjects. The result?
